Friday Night Movie – Chasing Liberty

Why you  should not miss this modern day take on the Roman Holiday – It’s fun, light and breezy, just perfect for that stay-back-home Friday. It’s like the cotton candy you enjoy while it lasts, it makes you happy, but you don’t really miss it when it’s over.

Plot : Anna Foster (Mandy Moore) is the rebellious First Daughter longing for a little freedom and taste of ordinary life. She gets her chance on a trip to Prague when she manages to give her bodyguards the slip and meets dude on a vespa, Ben (Matthew Goode), with a hidden agenda and a hidden identity in true Roman Holiday style. Ben posing as a travel photographer is actually an undercover agent assigned by her father, the President. Anna is clueless and head over heels, as Ben follows her around on her backpacking trip across Europe, because really who can resist a handsome stranger on your trip of a lifetime, isn’t that the dream?  Ben, on the other hand, is torn between heart and duty and Anna’s antics. Trouble in paradise is inevitable when the cat is let out of the bag.

What’s not great- The bordering on annoying side characters and a meandering plot. Our Anna on her pursuit of liberty tends to get a little too desperate at times.

What’s great – Matthew Goode (lets see you try and resist those dreamy eyes and hot accent). Also, the beautiful locations. Throw in Venice, and Prague and Love Parade and your romcom is sure to hit the mark. Who doesn’t love the idea of zipping in a vespa through cobbled streets . Besides, the leads have beautiful chemistry and really, that’s the most important thing that makes this romcom a cult favorite among romcomers. It has got some of those breezy romcom moments that makes us go ‘ahhh’.

Our Chick-Flick Moment Pick –  You need to watch out for when Ben confesses his feelings. ‘Unbloody-hinged’ is now an actual word thanks to this
